The magic of money
In a recent incident, a food delivery firm named 3663 Limited was made to pay a compensation of £7,000 to one of its delivery drivers who hurt his hand due to the defective door of the van he was driving.
The employee David McCulloch was engaged in delivery of bakery goods to Burger King in Newmarket when the door slammed on his hand breaking his index finger, and he had to be freed by the fire service that used their special cutting equipments for the task.
After the accident, David contacted his union the GMB who then decided to take action against the employers for compensation. The employers admitted their liability and settled out of court to compensate the employee to the tune of a little over £7,000. The spokesperson for GMB said that all the problems faced by David were attributable to the negligence of his employers and could have been easily avoided.

Martin Fell from Thompsons Solicitors – the firm that represented the union – expressed that the accident was caused because the employers failed in providing David with adequate safety and security measures. He added that they should have undertaken proper assessment of risks and inspected the vehicles used, and that although David did not suffer permanent injuries, he was nevertheless placed in a very risky situation.
David is currently working as a driver for another company and is glad that the injury was not very serious, as that could have caused permanent damage to his hands as well as livelihood, as he has to depend on his hands for driving. He also said that though he had to miss out on seven weeks of work, his hands have recovered completely now.
