Hood as a Part of Academic Dress
Hood is one of the important parts of academic dress and you can see different types of hoods have been used in the modern age in many different universities. The Cambridge University use different types of hoods for different purposes with the Graduation gowns. They have an extra ordinary garment design for their BA type hood where the MA type hood is quite different from the BA type hood. Hood is an older cloth than the other parts of academic dress like the Graduation gowns. First it was used as a shield to protect the head from extra heat of the sun and it was developed day by day after its starting time. The people of Britain start to change its design and the popular hood of this modern age is a version which made by the British.
Usually hood is an attractive and colorful garment worn which can be used in some special ceremonies or occasions. This hood can also be used by the singing groups of any extra ordinary occasions. The singing team or group has its own dress and they used the hood as an important part of their dresses. But that is not the perfect use of hood, hood can be getting the best value when it will be worn by the graduate of a university with the perfect piece of Graduation gowns and that will be fabulous.
Usually hood has two simple or fundamental patterns which are the full shape hood and the simple shape hood. There is different use of hoods. The full shape hoods are the most traditional it contains a cape, liripipe and a cowl. The full shape traditional hoods are used in the Cambridge and the simple shape hood has used in the BA and MA of Oxford and that hood does not contain any cape only contain the cowl and liripipe. You can also get some universities where they use the hoods but do not contain the liripipe only the cowl and the cape.
The rank and status of a student or teacher or official depends on the color and coating of their hoods. People use to wear graduation gown matching with the color of their hood. Different faculty has different color of their hoods and Graduation gowns. So you can easily separate them and the rank also can be imagined. The hood of BA is different from the MA and the MA hoods have a coating of silver color where the BA hoods have a coating of white rabbit far and this tradition followed by most of the former British colonies.
